SevenStock 5
SevenStock 7 - A Success!
SevenStock 7, the largest rotary event in the world, was a great success. More than 600 rotary cars, 5000 people, and dozens of vendors showed their support of the Rotary Engine and Mazda. Rotorheads from as far as New Zealand, Australia, Norway, and Japan made their way to Southern California, their expectations were blow away by the number of other fans.

Some important historic rotary race cars made and appearance, with their drivers. In 1984, Mazda Rotaries powered two Lola Race Cars. 1984 the Lola T616 Mazda racecars made motorsports history. When the Lola T616 Mazda first took to the track, it featured a modified 13B rotary engine and was rated at 300-horsepower. As with all rotary engines, the T616 lacked the displacement of competitors’ engines, but more than made up for this short-coming with incredible, high-revving reliability and the engine’s small size and low weight. BFGoodrich Tires entered two Mazda Lola T616s in the 1984 24 Hours of Le Mans C Junior (C2) group. Car 68, driven by Americans John Morton and John O’Steen, with Japanese driver Yoshami Katayama, took first in class and placed tenth overall. The Number 67 car was piloted by Americans Jim Busby and Rick Knoop as well as Dutchman Boy Hayje and placed third in its class, twelfth overall. These drivers and team mates were reunited at SevenStock for the first time in 20 years. At the banquet, a special documentary presentation taught those in attendance the importance of these wins.

If you missed it, they may have been the last SevenStock, since the event is on the verge of killing itself by its own success. We are out of space at the Mazda R&D location, have tired out the volunteers. However, please checking abck here, as it is very early to tell if this is the last SevenStock at Mazda R&D. (Laguna Seca, anyone?)

I think it is a great idea and we can achieve a little more results by putting a show for our selfs such as burnout contests, racing on the 1/8 mile and even drifting because Irwindale speedway has already welcomed alot of these venues.Speaking as a drag racer i will personaly make myself available for any exebition runs in the 1/8mile and i know lots of freinds who will also be in my shoes.

irwindale speedway/dragstrip is the PERFECT location. laguna is to far north for most of the organizers/fans/participants. it also is to expensive. it just isn't needed. irwindale is an awesome facility and has everything sevenstock would need, and much more!!!

Just an idea...have you thought about this??

In talking to a few friends that have attended many of the Seven Stock Events.Hearing rumors that this event may no longer exist. We have been looking at Irwindale Drag Strip or the Speedway itself, where they have local organized events and driftshows, carshows and drags. This also where have an annual VW Drag and carshow. This would be a great place to have the next Seven Stock because this place has had big events and is prepared to accomodate large number of cars and people. From whats been seen as these events many attendees not only want to "show" their cars but also want to run the cars themselves. This dragstrip would be great for burnout contest or drags. We are local dragracers and we have asked in the past about track rentals for our own personal use (test and tune) they seem to be affordable. I'm sure many attendees wouldnt mind paying a small fee to continue this long going event, instead of NOT having it at all. If you think this might be a good idea , email me at rotorious13b@aol.com We know the track manager and we can get some more answers from him.

Oh yeah! that will do it!

Laguna is a HUGE Challenge

Guys:
A couple of issues with Laguna are the following:

-All organizers from So-Cal
-Cost and Budget for Mazda and So-Cal RX Club
-Old School RX's (not enough interest or base in Nor-Cal)
-Cost to participants.. lodging, food, event, etc...

There are a few more considerations, but these are the major hurdles to overcome before any of this could get done at Laguna.

On the other hand, RotaryNews.Com (Dan & I) have begun ALL MAZDA track days at Laguna, which hopefully you'll on get board with in the near future. See the following:

I understand that the idea of using Laguna Seca is a very large undertaking, but i also understand that the event it self has groun quite considerably. Also, i would suggest that the parties interested in holding this event again next year at that venue should in fact try to find all the means necesary to make it worth wild. For example, if people from all over the US, some even from other countries made the trip to this years SevenStock7 doesnt the possibility present it self that many more will flock to a World Renown race track such as Laguna? You could also try, i dont know how the rest of the participants would feel on this one or if you do it like this, charge a vendero fee, and a public entry fee, at least to cover part of the track rental. Also, there could be sponsors for different parts of the events, or even Mazda it self could help out.

Im sure all this is debatable and lots of important decisions have to be made, but wouldnt it be WONDERFUL? :)

Good luck to all,
